SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 44-1x, 46-1x

DTC 44-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):

No Signal From the Right Side Impact Sensor (first)

DTC 46-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):

No Signal From the Right Side Impact Sensor (second)

NOTE:

- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service Precautions, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software Testing and Inspection, and retest.

1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 46-1x (except 46-11) indicated?

YES -

Faulty right side impact sensor (second); replace the right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

NO -

Go to step 4.

4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 44-1x (except 44-11) indicated?

YES -

Faulty right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

NO -

Go to step 5.

5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 46-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 7.

NO -

Go to step 6.

6. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 44-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 35.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

8. Check for these connector connections and harness.

- SRS unit connector B (39P) and the SRS unit.
- Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the SRS floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.
- Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the SRS floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.

Are the connections and harness OK?

YES -

Go to step 9.

NO -

Repair the poor connector connections or replace the harness, then clear the DTC, and retest.

- If poor connector connections are repaired, and DTC 46-11 is still present, go to step 9.
- If the harness is replaced, and DTC 46-11 is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.

9. Substitute a known-good right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.

10. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

11. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

12. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

13. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 46-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 14.

NO -

Faulty right side impact sensor (second); replace the right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

15. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

16. Return the right side impact sensor (second) which was replaced in step 9.

17. Substitute a known-good right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.

18. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

19. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

20. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

21. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 46-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 22.

NO -

Faulty right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

22. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

23. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

24. Return the right side impact sensor (first) which was replaced in step 17.

25. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.

26. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the SRS floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.

27. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the SRS floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.

28. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the SRS floor wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.





Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Go to step 29.

NO -

Short to another wire in the SRS floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the SRS floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.

29. Measure the resistance between body ground and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the SRS floor wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2 individually. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.





Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Go to step 30.

NO -

Short to ground in the SRS floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the SRS floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.

30. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

31. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

32. Measure the voltage between body ground and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the SRS floor wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2 individually. There should be less than 0.2 V.





Is the voltage as specified?

YES -

Go to step 33.

NO -

Short to power in the SRS floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the SRS floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.

33. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

34. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the SRS floor wire harness terminal No. 1 and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the SRS floor wire harness terminal No. 2, and between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the SRS floor wire harness terminal No. 4 and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the SRS floor wire harness terminal No. 1. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.





Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Disconnect and reconnect the connector, and then check DTC again. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.

NO -

Open in the SRS floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the SRS floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.

35. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

36. Check for these connector connections and harness.

- SRS unit connector B (39P) and the SRS unit.
- Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the SRS floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.
- Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the SRS floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.

Are the connections and harness OK?

YES -

Go to step 37.

NO -

Repair the poor connector connections or replace the harness, then clear the DTC, and retest.

- If poor connector connections are repaired, and DTC 44-11 is still present, go to step 37.
- If the harness is replaced, and DTC 44-11 is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.

37. Substitute a known-good right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.

38. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

39. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

40. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

41. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 44-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 42.

NO -

Faulty right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

42. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

43. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

44. Return the right side impact sensor (first) which was replaced in step 37.

45. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.

46. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the SRS floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.

47. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the SRS floor wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.





Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Go to step 48.

NO -

Short to another wire in the SRS floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the SRS floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.

48. Measure the resistance between body ground and right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the SRS floor wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3 individually. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.





Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Go to step 49.

NO -

Short to ground in the SRS floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the SRS floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.

49. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

50. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

51. Measure the voltage between body ground and right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the SRS floor wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3 individually. There should be less than 0.2 V.





Is the voltage as specified?

YES -

Go to step 52.

NO -

Short to power in the SRS floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the SRS floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.

52. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

53. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the SRS floor wire harness terminal No. 3 and SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 10, and between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the SRS floor wire harness terminal No. 2 and SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 11. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.





Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Disconnect and reconnect the connector, and then check DTC again. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.

NO -

Open in the SRS floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the SRS floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
