Parking and Back-Up Sensor System Description
Parking and Back-Up Sensor System Description
Parking and Back-Up Sensor System
The parking and back-up sensor system has a total of six sensors in the front and rear bumpers. One corner sensor at each corner of the vehicle, and two center sensors in the rear bumper. The sensors send out ultrasonic waves, receive waves reflected by an obstacle, determine the distance, and use the beeper and information display multi-information display (MID) to tell the driver that an obstacle is near.
- The corner sensors work any time the shift lever is shifted out of P, until the vehicle reaches about 9 mph (15 km/h). They do not come back on until slowing down to about 5 mph (8 km/h) or less.
- The center sensors are only activated in reverse, until the vehicle reaches 9 mph (15 km/h). They are not activated again until slowing back down to 5 mph (8 km/h).
- The parking and back-up sensor system is inactive with its switch OFF.
- The front sensor beeper, rear sensor beeper, and display are activated for 0.5 seconds when the ignition switch is turned to ON (II), and the parking and back-up sensor switch is turned from OFF to ON.
- The sensors must be free of debris, snow, and ice to work correctly.
- A system check is performed each time: The parking and back-up sensor switch is turned ON with the ignition switch is to ON (II).
- When a failure occurs, the parking and back-up sensor control unit stores DTCs and the multi-information display (MID) shows CHECK SYSTEM. When the sensor unit detects that the failure is no longer present, it clears the DTC and MID returns to normal.
- You can monitor the sensor operation in the HDS data list.
Front and Rear Corner
- The sensor determines the distance to the object in the following ranges and activates the warning indicators accordingly:
- From about 60 cm (23.6 in) to 45 cm (17.7 in)
- From 45 cm (17.7 in) to 35 cm (13.8 in)
- Less than 35 cm (13.8 in)
- The display and the corner buzzer are used to alert the driver, and the ON/OFF time varies as shown in the table below according to the sensed distance.
- If more than one sensor senses the object, the beeper sounds in sync with the display of the sensor that is closest to the obstacle.
Rear Center
- The sensor determines the distance to the object in the following ranges and activates the warning indicators accordingly:
- From about 150 cm (59.1 in) if the object is a wall
- From 110 cm (43.3 in) to 70 cm (27.6 in)
- From 70 cm (27.6 in) to 55 cm (21.7 in)
- From 55 cm (21.7 in) to 45 cm (17.7 in)
- Less than 45 cm (17.7 in)
- The display and the rear beeper are used to alert the driver, and the ON/OFF time varies as shown in the table below according to the sensed distance.
- If more than one sensor senses the object, the beeper sounds in sync with the display of the sensor that is closest to the obstacle.
