HFL System




HandsFreeLink DTC Troubleshooting: 1

DTC 1:

Microphone failure

NOTE: Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.

1. Do the HFL Self-Diagnostic Function, and check for HFL DTCs.

Is DTC 1 (MIC<->HFT Unit NG) indicated?

YES -

Go to step 2.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

3. Check for poor connection or loose terminals at the front HFL-ANC microphone 7P connector.

Are the connections OK?

YES -

Go to step 4.

NO -

Repair poor connection or loose terminals.

4. Disconnect the front HFL-ANC microphone 7P connector.

5. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector.

6. Check for continuity between body ground and HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector terminals No. 15 and No. 16 individually, then between terminals No. 14 and No. 15.





Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short in the wire(s) between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the front HFL-ANC microphone. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Go to step 7.

7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

8. Measure the voltage between HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector terminal No. 15 and body ground.





Is there voltage?

YES -

There is a short to power in the wire between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the front HFL-ANC microphone. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Go to step 9.

9. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

10. Check for continuity between HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector terminal No. 15 and front HFL-ANC microphone 7P connector terminal No. 3.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Substitute a known-good front HFL-ANC microphone Front HFL-ANC Microphone Removal/Installation, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original front HFL-ANC microphone Front HFL-ANC Microphone Removal/Installation. If the symptom/indication is still present, replace the HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.

NO -

There is an open in the wire between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the front HFL-ANC microphone. Replace the affected shielded harness.
