HandsFreeLink DTC Troubleshooting: 2

DTC 2:

HandsFreeLink steering wheel switch failure

NOTE: Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.

1. Start the engine, and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times.

2. Do the HFL Self-Diagnostic Function, and check for HFL DTCs.

Is DTC 2 (MIC<->HFT Unit NG) indicated?

YES -

Go to step 3.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

4. Do the HFL Switch Test HFL Switch Test.

Is the switch OK?

YES -

Go to step 5.

NO -

Replace the HFL switch HFL Switch Removal/Installation.

5. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector.

6. Disconnect the HFL switch 5P connector.

7. Check for continuity between HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the HandsFreeLink control unit, the cable reel, and the HFL switch.

NO -

Go to step 8.

8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

9. Measure the voltage between HFL switch 5P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.





Is there voltage?

YES -

Repair a short to power in the wire between the HFL switch, the cable reel, and the HandsFreeLink control unit.

NO -

Go to step 10.

10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

11. Check for continuity between HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector terminal No. 2 and HFL switch 5P connector terminal No. 2.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 12.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between the HFL switch, the cable reel, and the HandsFreeLink control unit.

12. Check for continuity between HFL switch 5P connector terminal No. 4 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Replace the HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.

NO -

Repair open in the wire between the HFL switch, the cable reel, and the audio unit.
