Audio System Self-Diagnostic Function

How to Obtain the Audio Unit Serial Number

NOTE: This procedure can only be done after the power has been disconnected and reconnected to the audio unit, and the audio unit displays CODE when the audio unit is turned on.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Make sure the audio system is turned off.

3. Press and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 6 buttons.

4. While holding the buttons, push the VOLUME/POWER () knob.

5. Release the buttons, and the self-diagnosis begins.






6. The display shows an 8-digit serial number. For example "S/N 12345678".

7. Use all 8 numbers as the serial number when using the Interactive Network (iN) to retrieve the 5-digit anti-theft code.

8. To end the self-diagnostic function, turn the audio system off, or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

How to Check the Audio System Condition

The audio system has a self-diagnostic function to help find problems with the audio system. To run the self-diagnostic function, do the following:

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.
- There may be other self-diagnostic functions that are for factory use only.
- The self-diagnostic function does not find every problem with the audio system.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Make sure the audio system is turned off.

3. Press and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 6 buttons.

4. While holding the buttons, push the VOLUME/POWER () knob.

5. Release the buttons, and the self-diagnosis begins.










6. When you are in the self-diagnostic mode, pressing a preset button starts the diagnostic mode that is assigned to that preset button. To exit this mode, go to step 7. Once you exit this test, you must start again at step 1.





7. The self-diagnostic mode ends when you turn off the audio unit or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

Active Noise Cancellation System Check Mode (press No. 1 button)

NOTE:

- Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.
- There may be other self-diagnostic functions that are for factory use only.
- Only perform this test when you are directed from a troubleshooting procedure.
- To restart the check mode, turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then enter the check mode.

How to check the active noise cancellation system in this check mode

- While in this system check mode, press the No. 1 button to move to the next test item.
- You must remember how many times you pressed the No. 1 button. The system does not show which test item you are doing.
- For test items 1 thru 10:
- When the system is normal, the speaker makes a low-frequency hum (50 Hz) for more than 5 seconds up to 1 minute.
- When there is a problem with the system, the speaker does not make a low frequency hum (50 Hz) or the hum stops within 5 seconds.

- The check mode will be automatically cancels after the test item has been running for 1 minute.
- When you reach the 11th test item, the test loops in ON and OFF.
- This check mode ends when you start the engine (ignition switch in START (III)) or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Since some tests require the engine to be running or stopped, you cannot do all these tests at once. If you need to check test item No. 2, No. 7, and/or No. 11, start the check mode with the engine idling. If you need to check test item No. 9 and/or No. 10, start the check mode with the engine stopped. Other test items are available with the engine running or stopped.














Audio Button, Knob, and Audio Remote Switch Detection Mode (press No. 2 button)

This test checks allows you to manually check all the audio switch panel buttons and knobs, and the audio remote switch buttons. When the button, the knob, or the switch is properly detected, the name or value of the input appears on the display.

NOTE: The VOLUME/POWER () knob (power switch) and the navigation system buttons (AUDIO, MAP/GUIDE, DEST/ROUTE, PHONE, CANCEL, INFO, Day/Night, and interface dial) are not supported with this diagnosis.

Entire LCD Lighting/Lights-Outs Mode (press No. 3 button)

This diagnostic screen checks for segments that may be dead (off) or stuck on.

All the display segments should be on. If any segments are dead (off), replace the center panel; with navigation Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation, without navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation or audio-HVAC display unit Audio-HVAC Display Unit Removal/Installation. With all the segments on, press the No. 3 button a second time. The entire display must turn black. If any segments are stuck on, replace the center panel; with navigation Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation, without navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation or audio-HVAC display unit Audio-HVAC Display Unit Removal/Installation.






Illumination Level (for the Gauge Illumination) Indication (press No. 4 button)

This diagnostic screen checks the gauge illumination input.

With the headlights on, use the dimmer knob to dim and brighten the gauge. You should see the value change from 1 (max low) to 22 (max high). If it does not change, check for B-CAN DTCs.






Vehicle Speed Pulse Indication (press No. 5 button)

This diagnostic screen checks that the audio unit is receiving the VSP indication.

When you test drive the vehicle, the VSP indicates the vehicle speed in km/h.






Record Control Mode (press CDL button or CD/CDL button)

This setting allows you to enable or disable recording CDs to the audio unit's memory. Refer to the Owner's Manual for more information.

NOTE: The audio-navigation unit (with navigation) records music to the HDD and is not supported with this diagnosis. For more information about ripping music to the HDD, see the navigation section.

Each time you press the CDL or CD/CDL button, the recording state is displayed.






Reception Level Indication Mode (press and hold FM button or AM button for 5 sec)

This diagnostic screen checks the audio unit's reception level in decibels (dB). This level then can be used in the diagnosis of audio unit reception quality.






Preparation:

- Park the vehicle outside in a good location away from tall buildings, mountains, high-voltage power line or any other object that may interfere with reception.
- Tune to a powerful local FM radio station then write down the radio station number.
- Tune to a powerful local AM radio station then write down the radio station number.

1. Enter the reception level indication mode in the self-diagnostic function.

2. Tune to the FM radio station you wrote down in Preparation using the TUNING knob, and note the decibel level of that station when you release the button.

3. Press and release the TITLE button (with navigation) or SCAN button (without navigation with climate control) or A.SEL button (without navigation without climate control) to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier off.

4. Note the decibel level of that station with the antenna amplifier off.

5. Press and release the TITLE button (with navigation) or SCAN button (without navigation with climate control) or A.SEL button (without navigation without climate control) to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier back on.

6. Press and hold the AM/FM button or AM button for more than 5 seconds to enter the AM reception mode.

7. Tune to the AM radio station you wrote down in preparation using the TUNING knob, and note the decibel level of that station.

8. Press and release the TITLE button (with navigation) or SCAN button (without navigation with climate control) or A.SEL button (without navigation without climate control) to turn the antenna amplifier off.

9. Note the decibel level of that station with the antenna amplifier off.

10. Press and release the TITLE button (with navigation) or SCAN button (without navigation with climate control) or A.SEL button (without navigation without climate control) to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier back on.

11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) or audio unit off to exit the test mode.

12. Compare your results to a known-good, (make sure it is the same year and trim level) in the same location and direction, and under the same environmental conditions.

- If the reception level is within 10% of the known-good vehicle, no repair is needed at this time.
- If the reception level is at least 10% less than the known good vehicle, go to Poor AM or FM radio reception or interference troubleshooting; with navigation Symptom Troubleshooting, without navigation Symptom Troubleshooting.

System Reset Mode (without navigation)

NOTE: The audio-navigation unit (with navigation) is not supported with this diagnosis.

Using the System Reset Mode erases all the music saved in the CD-L and resets the following settings:

- AM/FM preset memories
- Audio settings (volume, tone control, audio dimension, subwoofer, and SVC)
- RES settings (Language, dynamic range, parental level, parental password, and DVD auto play)
- Menu language
- Clock adjustment (12/24H setting)
- HFL security code

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Make sure the audio system is turned off.

3. Press and hold the preset No. 1, No. 4, No. 6, and the SELECTOR knob for 5 seconds, and the system reset mode begins.










4. When the system reset mode ends, the audio system automatically returns to its normal display setting.

Speaker Check Mode

NOTE:

- Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.
- There may be other self-diagnostic functions that are for factory use only.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Make sure the audio system is turned off.

3. Press and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 3 buttons.

4. While holding the buttons, push the VOLUME/POWER () knob.

5. Release the buttons, and the speaker check mode begins.











Display Specifications









With navigation and rear entertainment





With navigation, without rear entertainment or without navigation





6. The speaker check mode ends when you turn the audio unit off or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

XM Self-Diagnosis

NOTE: This diagnostic screen checks the audio unit's XM radio reception level. To check the XM reception, do the following:

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Select XM1 mode.

3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

4. Push and hold the preset No. 3 and No. 6 buttons.

5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

6. Continue holding the buttons for 5 seconds, then release the buttons. If there is a problem with the system, the error code is displayed.










7. To end the XM self-diagnosis, turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

Display Diagnosis (without navigation with USB adapter)

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- This diagnosis is applied to the audio display-USB adapter control unit (without navigation with USB adapter) only.
- Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.
- There may be other self-diagnostic functions that are for factory use only.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Make sure the audio system is turned off.

3. Push and hold the preset No. 1, No. 3, and No. 5 buttons.

4. While holding the buttons, push the VOLUME/POWER () knob. The system version is displayed.

5. Release the buttons, then push the DISPLAY button, the Display Diagnostics menu screen appears.










6. Turn the SELECTOR knob to select the diagnosis, then press the SELECTOR knob to enter your selection.

NOTE: The Software Update and the Software Version are factory use only.

7. To end the self-diagnostic function, turn the audio system off, or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

RGB Color

This diagnostic screen checks that the audio display-USB adapter control unit is displaying the red (R), green (G), and blue (B) colors properly. The three primary colors should all appear without distortion. The combination of all three should produce a central white section. If any of the colors are missing, replace the audio display-USB adapter control unit Audio Display-USB Adapter Control Unit Removal/Installation.






Gray Tone

This diagnostic screen checks problems with contrast. You should be able to see the changes from bar to bar across the scale. It is normal for the two bars on either side to appear the same. If you cannot see changes from bar to bar, replace the audio display-USB adapter control unit Audio Display-USB Adapter Control Unit Removal/Installation.






White Raster

This diagnostic screen checks for pixels that may be dead (off). The entire display must be white. If there are dead pixels, replace the audio display-USB adapter control unit Audio Display-USB Adapter Control Unit Removal/Installation.


Black Raster

This diagnostic screen checks for pixels that may be stuck on. The entire display must be black. If pixels are stuck on, replace the audio display-USB adapter control unit Audio Display-USB Adapter Control Unit Removal/Installation.






Color Pattern

This diagnostic screen shows the colors being used for the map and menu screens. This is for factory use only.






Monitor Adjustment

These diagnostic screens allow you to adjust the brightness and the rearview camera guideline with the audio display-USB adapter control unit. Select the item you want to troubleshoot, and follow the diagnostic instructions.

NOTE: The Brightness Adjust is for factory use only.






Brightness Adjust

This screen adjusts the display brightness. This is for factory use only.






Guideline Adjust

This screen adjusts the rearview camera image guide lines. If you need to adjust a guide line, do the following:

NOTE: Do not change the shift lever to R while in this mode.

Select the point you want to adjust using the SELECTOR knob, and press the SELECTOR knob. The blue point changes to the red point and you can move it.

- If the ALL Points is selected, all guide lines can be adjusted at the same time.
- If the Default is selected, all guide lines can be reset to the factory settings.
- To return to the previous screen, select the CANCEL or press the RETURN button.

Point Selection





To adjust the editing point (red) left or right, rotate the SELECTOR knob until it is in the desired position, then push in the SELECTOR knob to change the vertical position. Rotate the SELECTOR knob left and right to move the editing point up and down. Push in the SELECTOR knob when the edit point is in its desired position.

Adjust X Mode





Adjust Y Mode





To change another guide line, push in the SELECTOR knob and return to the Point Selection screen.

Select Save to save your changes. Each coordinate of the guide line is displayed.

Change Result





Select Exit to exit the Guideline Adjustment menu. The system returns to the Monitor Adjustment menu.

System Reset

By selecting Yes, all adjustable parameters are reset to their default values. To exit this mode, select No.






Software Update

This screen is used for updating the audio display-USB adapter control units software. This is for factory use only.






Software Version

This screen displays the current version information for the audio display-USB adapter control units software. This is for factory use only.
