Compass: Adjustments
Electrical Compass Zone Selection and Calibration
NOTE:
- You should do this procedure any time the electrical compass unit is replaced.
- You should do this procedure in an open area away from buildings, power lines, other vehicles, and any other sources of strong magnetic fields.
- If you see "--" and the CAL indicator is shown in the audio display, the electrical compass unit is self-calibrating.
- The electrical compass unit may need to be manually calibrated after exposure to a strong magnetic field. If the electrical compass unit seems to be continually showing the wrong direction, and is not self-calibrating, do the following.
Zone Selection
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Press and hold the SETUP button until you hear a beep (about 5 seconds). The display shows the electrical compass setting menu items.
3. Rotate the SELECTOR knob to select the Zone Adjust (A) or ZONE (B) and press the SELECTOR knob to enter the selection.
NOTE: If necessary, press the RETURN button to return to the previous display. Pressing the SETUP button cancels the electrical compass setting mode.
4. The display shows the currently selected zone number between from 1 to 15. Find the zone for your area on the zone map. If the correct zone is not shown, turn the selector knob to cycle the zone lists up or down.
5. Press the SELECTOR knob to decide the selected zone. Returning to the normal display, the zone selection mode ends.
Calibration
NOTE: The electrical compass unit may need to be manually calibrated after exposure to a strong magnetic field. If the electrical compass unit seems to be continually showing the wrong direction, and is not self-calibrating, do the following.
1. Check the No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
3. Press and hold the SETUP button until you hear a beep (about 5 seconds). The display shows the electrical compass setting menu items.
4. Rotate the SELECTOR knob to select the Calibration and press the SELECTOR knob to enter the selection.
NOTE: If necessary, press the RETURN button to return to the previous display. Pressing the SETUP button cancels the electrical compass setting mode.
5. Press the SELECTOR knob to enter the selection. The display shows the Start Calibration (A).
6. When the display shows the Start Calibration or CAL, press the SELECTOR knob. The compass display blinks and the CAL indicator (A) comes on.
7. Drive the vehicle slowly in three complete circles (20 seconds or more per a circle). When the calibration is successfully completed, the compass display stops blinking and the CAL indicator goes off.
NOTE:
- The audio system is not related to the electrical compass system. Even if the electrical compass system is calibrating, the display returns to the normal display which was last selected.
- If the calibration fails, try another location (an open area away from buildings, power lines, other vehicles, and any other sources of strong magnetic fields) and do the calibration procedure again.
