85-62
SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 85-61, 85-62
DTC 85-61:
No Signal From the ODS Unit
DTC 85-62:
Incorrect Data From the ODS Unit
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Battery Terminal Disconnection And Reconnection.
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software Testing and Inspection, and retest.
1. Clear the DTC memory.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
3. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 85-61 or 85-62 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 4.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
5. Check the No. 9 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II). If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. 9 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (right engine compartment wire harness, floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness).
6. Remove the cover (A), then check the connection between the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector (B) and the ODS unit.
Is the connection OK?
YES -
Go to step 7.
NO -
Repair the poor connection, then clear the DTC, and retest. If DTC 85-61 or 85-62 is still present, go to step 7.
7. Disconnect the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit (B).
8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
9. Measure the voltage between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 10.
NO -
Open between the No. 9 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box and the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 1 (right engine compartment wire harness, floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
11. Measure the resistance between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 12 and body ground. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 12.
NO -
Open between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 12 and body ground (G502) or poor connection at G502.
12. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
13. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.
14. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 15.
NO -
Short to ground between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7 (floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
15. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 16.
NO -
Open between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7 (floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
16. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
17. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
18. Measure the voltage between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be 0.2 V.
Is the voltage as specified?
YES -
Go to step 19.
NO -
Short to power between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7 (floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
19. Replace the ODS unit Service and Repair.
20. Clear the DTC memory.
21. Read the DTC.
Is the DTC 85-61 or 85-62 indicated?
YES -
Replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.
NO -
If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC. If no DTCs are present, the system is OK at this time.
