SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 61-1x
DTC 61-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):
Open in the Driver's Seat Belt Buckle Switch
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
- '12 model: Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software Testing and Inspection, and retest.
1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then buckle and unbuckle the driver's seat belt several times.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 61-1x indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
5. '09-11 models: From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then PARAMETER INFORMATION. In the PARAMETER INFORMATION Menu, select Buckle Switch, Seat Position Sensor and check the status on the HDS screen for FRONT LEFT SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH.
'12 model: From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Data List, and check the status on the HDS screen for FRONT LEFT SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH.
- If UNBUCKLED is indicated only when the driver's seat belt is buckled, go to step 6.
- If BUCKLED is indicated only when the driver's seat belt is unbuckled, go to step 12.
- If OPEN is indicated only when the driver's seat belt is buckled and unbuckled, go to step 19.
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
7. Disconnect the driver's seat wire harness or the floor wire harness 3P connector from the driver's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector (A).
8. Buckle the driver's seat belt. Check resistance between driver's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3.
Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?
YES -
Go to step 9.
NO -
Replace the driver's seat belt buckle assembly, then clear the DTC.
9. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait for 3 minutes.
10. '09-11 models: Disconnect SRS unit connector B (28P) from the SRS unit.
'12 model: Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.
11. '09-11 models: Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (28P) connector terminal No. 12 and driver's seat wire harness or the floor wire harness 3P connector terminal No. 3.
'12 model: Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) connector terminal No. 18 and driver's seat wire harness or the floor wire harness 3P connector terminal No. 3.

'12 model
Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?
YES -
Faulty SRS unit or poor connection at SRS unit connector B (28P) or (39P) and the SRS unit. Check the connection between the connector and the SRS unit. If the connection is OK, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness or the driver's seat wire harness, or poor connection at C503*. Check the connection; if the connection is OK, replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
*: with 10-way power seat
12. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
13. Disconnect the driver's seat wire harness or the floor wire harness 3P connector from the driver's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector (A).
14. Unbuckle the driver's seat belt.
15. Measure the resistance between driver's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.
Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?
YES -
Go to step 16.
NO -
Replace the driver's seat belt buckle assembly, then clear the DTC.
16. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait for 3 minutes.
17. '09-11 models: Disconnect SRS unit connector B (28P) from the SRS unit.
'12 model: Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.
18. '09-11 models: Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (28P) connector terminal No. 11 and driver's seat wire harness or the floor wire harness 3P connector terminal No. 2.
12 model: Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) connector terminal No. 19 and driver's seat wire harness or the floor wire harness 3P connector terminal No. 2.

'12 model
Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?
YES -
Faulty SRS unit or poor connection at SRS unit connector B (28P) or (39P) and the SRS unit. Check the connection between the connector and the SRS unit. If the connection is OK, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.
NO -
Open in the driver's seat wire harness or the floor wire harness, or poor connection at the floor wire harness. Check the connections at floor wire harness, connector F (14P), and connector H (14P) at the under-dash fuse/relay box. If the connections are OK, replace the faulty harness or part, then clear the DTC.
19. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
20. Disconnect the driver's seat wire harness or the floor wire harness 3P connector from the driver's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector (A).
21. Unbuckle the driver's seat belt.
22. Measure the resistance between driver's seat wire harness or the floor wire harness 3P connector terminals No. 1 and body ground.
Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?
YES -
Replace the driver's seat belt buckle assembly, then clear the DTC.
NO -
Open in the driver's seat wire harness or the floor wire harness, or poor ground connection at G501. If G501 is OK, replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
