SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 71-1x
DTC 71-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):
Open in the Driver's Seat Position Sensor
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
- '12 model: Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software Testing and Inspection, and retest.
1. Raise the driver's seat all the way up.
2. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 71-1x indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
5. Check the connection between the driver's seat wire harness (with 10-way power seat) or seat position sensor harness (without 10-way power seat) 2P connector and the driver's seat position sensor Service and Repair.
Are the connections OK?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Repair the poor connections, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC 71-1x is still present, go to step 6.
6. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 71-1x indicated?
YES -
Go to step 9.
NO -
Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, go to the DTC Troubleshooting Index.
9. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and wait for 10 seconds.
10. Disconnect the driver's seat wire harness (with 10-way power seat) or seat position sensor harness (without 10-way power seat) 2P connector from the driver's seat position sensor (A).
11. Connect a jumper wire to driver's seat wire harness (with 10-way power seat) or seat position sensor harness (without 10-way power seat) 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.
12. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
13. '09-11 models: Disconnect SRS unit connector B (28P) from the SRS unit.
'12 model: Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.
14. '09-11 models: Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (28P) connector terminals No. 5 and No. 6.
'12 model: Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) connector terminals No. 28 and body ground.

Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?
YES -
Faulty driver's seat position sensor or SRS unit; replace the driver's seat position sensor Service and Repair, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness, driver's seat wire harness (with 10-way power seat) or the seat position sensor harness (without 10-way power seat); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
