SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 85-61, 85-62
DTC 85-61:
No Signal From the ODS Unit
DTC 85-62:
Incorrect Data From the ODS Unit
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
- '12 model: Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software Testing and Inspection, and retest.
1. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat, and make sure nothing in the seat-back pocket.
2. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 85-61 or 85-62 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
6. Check the No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Go to step 7.
NO -
Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch ON (II). If the fuse blows again, check for a short to ground in the No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (dashboard wire harness, floor wire harness, front passenger's seat wire harness, or ODS unit harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the under-dash fuse/relay box Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal And Installation, then clear the DTC.
7. Check the connector connection between the ODS unit harness 18P connector (A) and the ODS unit (B).
Is the connector connection OK?
YES -
Go to step 8.
NO -
Repair the poor connector connection, then clear the DTC, and retest. If DTC 85-61 or 85-62 is still present, go to step 8.
8. Disconnect the ODS unit harness 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit (B).
9. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
10. Measure the voltage between body ground and ODS unit harness 18P connector terminal No. 1.

Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 15.
NO -
Go to step 11.
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
12. Disconnect dashboard wire harness 24P connector C402 (A) from the floor wire harness 24P connector C402 (B).
13. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
14. Measure the voltage between dashboard wire harness 24P connector C402 terminal No. 13 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Open in the floor wire harness, the front passenger's seat wire harness, or the ODS unit harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
NO -
Open in the dashboard wire harness, poor connection at connector N (45P), or faulty under-dash fuse/relay box; replace the dashboard wire harness or faulty part, then clear the DTC.
15. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
16. Measure the resistance between body ground and ODS unit harness 18P connector terminal No. 12.

Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?
YES -
Go to step 17.
NO -
Open in the ODS unit harness, the front passenger's seat wire harness, or the floor wire harness; poor connection at G501, or poor connection at the ODS unit 18P connector and the ODS unit. Check the connectors; if the connection is OK, replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
17. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
18. '09-11 models: Disconnect SRS unit connector A (28P) from the SRS unit.
'12 model: Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.
19. '09-11 models: Measure the resistance between body ground and SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14.
'12 model: Measure the resistance between body ground and SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1.

Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?
YES -
Go to step 20.
NO -
Short to ground in the dashboard wire harness, the floor wire harness, the front passenger's seat wire harness, or the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.
20. '09-11 models: Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and ODS unit harness 18P connector terminal No. 7.
'12 model: Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and ODS unit harness 18P connector terminal No. 7.
