TECHNICAL

Subject:
Water Leak From Sunroof Area (Replace Drain Hoses)

Models:
2003 HUMMER H2

Condition

Some customers may comment on a water leak from the sunroof area.

Cause

One or both of the drain hoses from the front corners of the sunroof module may be kinked under the instrument panel (IP).

Correction

Replace both sunroof front drain hoses with an updated design part using the following procedure:

1. Remove both windshield garnish moldings.

2. Release both sunshades from their attachment locations in the roof. It is not necessary to completely remove them from the headliner.

3. Remove the two upper bolts from the IP center trim panel. Pull the upper part of the trim panel back for access. It is not necessary to completely remove this trim panel.

4. Remove the end cap trim panel from the left side of the IP.

5. Remove the left IP accessory trim plate.

6. Remove the IP cluster trim panel.

7. Remove the headlamp switch.

8. Remove the instrument panel cluster.

9. Remove the end cap trim panel from the right side of the IP.

10. Remove the IP assist handle.

11. Remove the right IP accessory trim plate.

12. Remove the IP upper trim pad.

13. Pull down the right front door opening weatherstrip from the front upper corner of the door opening. This is done to allow access to the headliner.

14. Carefully pull down the right front corner of the headliner in order to gain access to the drain hose connection on the sunroof module. Loosen the clamp on the drain hose and remove the drain hose from the sunroof module.

15. Remove the drain hose from under the headliner and from the right A pillar.

16. Remove the drain hose from the IP. Make a note of the routing of the drain hose for easier installation of the new part.

17. Cut a slit in the foam insulation on the front of dash above the opening for the sunroof drain hose. Reposition the insulation away from the sunroof drain hose. This will make it easier to install the new sunroof drain hose.

18. Apply a small amount of lubricant to the grommet on the new sunroof drain hose. Install the grommet of the new hose into the opening in the front of dash. Reposition the insulation back around the sunroof drain hose opening in the front of dash. Route the new drain hose under the IP, up the left A pillar and under the headliner to the sunroof module.

19. Attach the drain hose to the sunroof module using the clamp from the original hose.

20. Pull down the left door opening weatherstrip from the front upper corner of the door opening.

21. Carefully pull down the left front corner of the headliner in order to gain access to the drain hose connection on the sunroof module. Loosen the clamp on the drain hose and remove the drain hose from the sunroof module.

22. Remove the drain hose from under the headliner and from the left A pillar.

23. Remove the attaching screw from the top left corner of the air conditioning (A/C) duct that attaches to the left A/C outlet. The screw is accessed through the opening in the top of the IP carrier. The screw is removed from the backside of the IP carrier.

24. Remove the left side door defroster duct.

25. Pull the flexible hose that attaches to the side door defroster duct out from under the IP carrier.

26. Reposition the A/C duct downward in order to gain access to the sunroof drain hose.

27. Cut a slit in the foam insulation on the front of dash above the hole for the sunroof drain hose. Use a pair of scissors and reach down through the top of the IP carrier to make the cut. Reposition the insulation away from the sunroof drain hose.

28. Remove the sunroof drain hose from the vehicle. Make a note of the routing of the drain hose for easier installation of the new part.

30. Attach the drain hose to the sunroof module using the clamp from the original hose.

31. Install both sunshades.

32. Install both door opening weatherstrips.

33. Install the left side door defroster duct flexible hose back into it's original location.
