Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain transaxle fluid.
2. Remove clutch release cylinder from transaxle assembly, if equipped.
3. Disconnect select and shift cables from transaxle.
4. Remove air cleaner assembly.
5. Disconnect back-up switch electrical connector, then speedometer cable.
6. Disconnect clutch fluid line, then remove starter motor assembly.
7. Remove upper transaxle retaining bolts, then transaxle mounting bracket bolt.
8. Remove splash shield from under vehicle.
9. Disconnect tie rod end, lower control arm ball joint and driveshaft assembly as follows:
a. Remove driveshaft hub nut.
b. Disconnect the lower arm ball joint from lower control arm using ball joint separator tool No. 09545-21000, or equivalent.
c. Disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle using tie rod end removal tool No. 09568-31000 or equivalent.
d. Insert pry bar between driveshaft and transaxle case and pry driveshaft from case.
e. Using a wheel puller tool No. 09526-11001, or equivalent, remove driveshaft from hub assembly.
10. Remove bellhousing inspection cover.
11. Support transaxle with jack, then remove lower transaxle retaining bolts.
12. Remove transaxle assembly from vehicle.
13. Reverse procedure to install.
