Group: TRANSAXLE

Number: 96-40-002

Date: FEBRUARY, 1996

Model: ACCENT

Subject
SHIFT QUALITY IMPROVEMENT FOR ACCENTS WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLES

DESCRIPTION:

A modified Transaxle Control Module (TCM) is available for the Accent to reduce shift shock and/or delay during the following conditions:

1. Shift shock after shifting from P-D or N-D, then accelerating.

2. Excessive delay (more than 1.5 seconds) and shift shock when shifting from P-R or P-D (also N-R or N-D).

NOTE:
Excessive delay and/or shift shock may also be caused by an ATF oil temperature sensor that is out of specification. Test the ATF oil temperature sensor according to TSB # 96-40-001 prior to changing the TCM.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

Using a 10 mm socket, remove the three bolts that mount the TCM under the driver's side of the lower crash pad, to the left of the brake pedal.
