REPAIR PROCEDURE
If a vehicle experiences this condition, use the Hi-Scan Pro to reprogram the ECM with updated software.
First, the Hi-Scan "Reprogramming Software Pack" card must be updated with the correct program. Launch the "Scan-Tool" update program from the Info-Tech home screen and select "98 Bosch ECM".
For complete instructions on updating Hi-Scan Software Packs, see TSB 00-00-001.
Once the "Reprogramming Software Pack" card is properly set up, use the following procedure for reprogramming the ECM:
1. The Bosch Reprogramming Adapter is required to perform the ECM update.
2. Connect the adapter to the end of the Hi-Scan Data Link Connector (DLC).
3. Make sure the updated "Reprogramming Software Pack" is inserted into the Hi-Scan.
NOTE 1:
The Reprogramming Software Pack must be the only software card in the Hi-Scan.
NOTE 2:
This card must be updated. See Service Procedures.
4. Connect the Reprogramming Adapter to the vehicle's DLC
5. Turn the ignition switch "ON". Turn the Hi-Scan on and select the proper option (1 - 3).
NOTE:
Options 4 - 6 are only used if options 1 - 3 do not complete successfully. See procedures for instructions on using the "Forced" options 4 - 6.
6. Enter "0801" for the Password.
7. Hi-Scan establishes communication with the ECM.
8. Hi-Scan checks the ECM software identification number.
9. When prompted, turn the ignition key to OFF and then back to ON.
NOTE:
The Hi-Scan must and will remain ON during this process.
10. When ignition switch is turned back to ON, press the ENTER key on the Hi-Scan.
Hi-Scan will then establish communication.
11. The ECM reprogramming begins
CAUTION:
Do not interrupt the download process at any time. The ECM may be rendered inoperative if the software is not downloaded properly
12. After approximately 5 minutes, the ECM software will be updated and the COMPLETED! message will be displayed.
IMPORTANT:
13. Turn the ignition switch OFF and wait 20 seconds before starting the engine.
