Repair Procedure
The repair involves reprogramming the ECM to change the control logic.IMPORTANT
STEP 9 of this procedure will require that one of two possible paths in the repair procedure be taken. Please be sure to follow the proper procedure.
WARNING
Make sure the vehicles battery is fully charged! If necessary, attach a supplementary power source to the vehicles battery to ensure good 12V power to the vehicle during ECM reprogramming.
ECM SPECIFICATION TABLE:
CAUTIONS BEFORE REPROGRAMMING:
1. Conduct reprogramming with the ignition key in the "ON" position.
2. Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or Hi-Scan Pro during reprogramming.
WARNING
If reprogramming is interrupted, the manual update procedure must be used.
3. Do not start the engine during reprogramming.
4. Do not turn the ignition key off during reprogramming.
STEP 1:
Check that the vehicle was produced on or before February 4, 2002.
STEP 2:
Using the new 32MB (MegaByte) reprogramming card (which has the required software pre-loaded), connect the Hi-Scan Pro to the vehicle's DLC connector.
NOTE
The label on the 32MB Reprogramming Card is RED, whereas the label on the 16MB card is YELLOW.
STEP 3:
Turn the ignition key to the ON position.
STEP 4:
Turn the Hi-Scan Pro ON
STEP 5:
Select option "21. SM 2.7 BATTERY DRAIN" and press ENTER
STEP 6:
Select "01. SM 2.7 01MY/02MY ECM [AUTO MODE]" and press ENTER
STEP 7:
Enter "1229" as the password and press ENTER.
STEP 8:
The Hi-Scan Pro will establish communication.
STEP 9:
The Hi-Scan Pro will display the "OLD" ECM ID and the "NEW" ECM ID.
IMPORTANT
Write down the "OLD" ECM ID.
From this point on, there are two possibilities in completing the repair procedure.
OPTION 1:
IF the "OLD" ECM ID is S1N7TS0 T,
THEN simply complete the reprogramming procedure. The repair is completed.
Use Op Code 39145R0F in claiming this repair.
OPTION 2:
If the "OLD" ECM ID is S1N7TS0 A, S1N7TS0 B or S1N7TS0 C,
THEN complete the reprogramming procedure AND replace both front 02 sensors
(following the instructions on pages 11 - 13 of this TSB).
Use the Op Code 10B053R0 in claiming this repair (as shown in this TSB). Submit the claim using the Campaign Claim Screen.
NOTE
^ The current ECM ID Will be replaced by the new ECM ID.
^ The program will take approximately 7 minutes to download completely.
If the Hi-Scan Pro does not download the program, use the Manual Update Procedure following this section.
^ Be sure to check and record the current (old) ECM ID to determine if both front oxygen sensors need to be replaced. If the current ECM ID is one of those listed below, be sure to replace the front oxygen sensors after reprogramming.
^ S1N7TS0A
^ S1N7TS0B
^ S1N7TS0C
WARNING
^ Do not interrupt the reprogramming at any time. The ECM will be rendered inoperative if the program does not download completely.
STEP 10:
The Hi-Scan Pro reinitializes the ECM.
STEP 11:
When the "COMPLETED" message is displayed, check the new ECM ID displayed on the Hi-Scan Pro screen to verify that the correct ECM software has been downloaded. The ID number should read "S2N7TS0C". Turn the Hi-Scan Pro OFF and the process is complete.
STEP 12:
When the reprogramming is completed successfully, turn the ignition to the OFF position and then start the engine to check for proper operation.
