HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (HECU) REPROGRAMMING - CAMPAIGN 065
IMPORTANT:
DEALERS MUST PERFORM THIS RECALL ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES PRIOR TO CUSTOMER RETAIL DELIVERY AND WHENEVER AN AFFECTED VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP FOR ANY MAINTENANCE OR REPAIR.
IMPORTANT:
WHEN A VEHICLE ARRIVES AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ACCESS HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA'S "WARRANTY VEHICLE INFORMATION" SCREEN VIA DCS INTERACTIVE OR DCS ON-LINE TO IDENTIFY OPEN CAMPAIGNS.
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
2003 and 2004 MY Santa Fe vehicles produced through February 27, 2004 that are equipped with 3.5L V6 engines, 4 Wheel Drive and Antilock Brake Systems (ABS).
DESCRIPTION:
If the brake pedal is depressed at speeds between 3 and 12 mph when the brake pad friction surfaces are wet, a vibration may occur between the brake discs and pads, causing ABS sensor electronic signal noise to develop. At speeds below 5 mph, the ABS sensor signal noise may cause the ABS electronic control unit (ECU) to activate the ABS, extending the stopping distance.
To correct this condition, reprogram the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) of all affected vehicles with new logic using the Hi-Scan Pro by following the procedure described in this bulletin.
Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) Specification Table shown.
CAUTIONS BEFORE REPROGRAMMING:
1. Conduct reprogramming with the ignition key in the "ON" position.
2. Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or Hi-Scan Pro during reprogramming.
WARNING:
If reprogramming is interrupted, the manual update procedure must be used.
3. Do not start the engine during reprogramming.
4. Do not turn the ignition key OFF during reprogramming.
5. When the reprogramming is completed, turn OFF the ignition key for 20 seconds before starting the engine.
