Model: 05 --> SANTA FE
Subject
COMPASS CALIBRATION
DESCRIPTION:
2005 model year SANTA FE (SM) vehicles are available with an optional compass installed in the overhead console.
When the power is first connected through the power bar in the fuse box, the compass may require calibration. This procedure will also be required if the compass is serviced or replaced.
When the power bar in the fuse box is first connected (or the battery is reconnected after service) the compass will display a "C" to indicate it requires calibration. If this is not properly performed, the compass will attempt to self-calibrate. Self-calibration may not be as accurate as the calibration procedure provided in this TSB.
PROCEDURE:
1. Start the vehicle and drive to an area where the vehicle can be driven in a circle.
CAUTION:
Be sure the area is free of traffic, pedestrians and obstructions before driving.
2. Press and hold the "M" button until the display flashes. Drive one full circle within 2 minutes while observing the compass display. When the display stops flashing, the compass is calibrated to magnetic North.
NOTE:
If the compass displays the "C", it is already in the calibration mode. Simply drive in one full circle until a direction is indicated.
NOTE:
The direction of the circle may be clockwise or counterclockwise.
3. To adjust the compass to display true North, locate the area where the vehicle will be operated on the map. Note the correction factor closest to your area (the factors range from 30 degrees West to 30 degrees East in 5 degree increments).
4. Press and hold the "M" button for about 5 seconds, until the compass displays the correction factor. Use the up or down arrow to adjust the correction factor. To complete the correction, press the "M" button for 1 second.
NOTE:
The compass correction factor will remain stored even if the battery is disconnected.
