DESCRIPTION:
The digital compass in some 2005 & 2006 Santa Fe vehicles may not properly calibrate or display the correct heading even after following the calibration procedure provided in the owners manual and TSB 04-90-013. This TSB provides the installation instructions for applying a magnetic shielding panel (MU metal) to the digital compass to prevent magnetic interference from the roof panel.
VEHICLES AFFECTED:
^ Santa Fe with sunroof and digital compass options.
^ Production date range: 6/24/2004 - 10/10/2005.
NOTE:
Prior to performing the procedure described in this TSB, compass calibration as described in TSB 04-90-013 must be attempted. Proper diagnosis by testing +12V, ground, and vehicle speed signal must also be performed. If the compass does not calibrate after these procedures, order the following part and proceed to Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED
PROCEDURE:
1. Calibrate the digital compass using the procedure described in TSB 04-90-013, the owner's manual, or the appropriate shop manual. If successful, this service procedure has been completed. If unsuccessful, continue following the service procedure.
2. Gain access to the digital compass module by first removing the overhead console as shown.
a. Continue by removing the console from the roof panel and disconnecting the MM06 connector as shown.
3. Disconnect the M88 connector to increase accessibility to the back of the module.
4. Pre-bend the shielding panel to match the dimensions of the back of the digital compass module as shown.
5. Peel back the adhesive liner and firmly attach the pre-bent shielding panel to the back of the module as shown.
6. Reconnect the (2) previously disconnected connectors.
7. Re-install the overhead console.
8. Calibrate the digital compass using the procedure described in TSB 04-90-013.
