DIGITAL COMPASS DOES NOT CALIBRATE - CORRECTION PROCEDURE (CAMPAIGN T17)

IMPORTANT:
DEALERS MUST PERFORM THIS CAMPAIGN ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES PRIOR TO CUSTOMER RETAIL DELIVERY.

DESCRIPTION

This TSB provides the installation instructions for applying a magnetic shielding panel (MU-metal) to the digital compass to prevent magnetic interference from the roof panel.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
^ Verify that the vehicle is affected by accessing Hyundai Motor America's "Warranty Vehicle Information" screen via DCS interactive or DCS on-line to identify an open T17 Service Campaign on the vehicle.

Vehicles Affected:
^ Santa Fe with sunroof and digital compass options.
^ Production date range of 6/24/2004 through 10/10/2005.
^ VIN range of KMHSC81DP5U829743 through KM8SB73E26U079297

Note:
^ Prior to performing the procedure described in this TSB, compass calibration, described in TSB 04-90-013, must be attempted. Proper diagnosis by testing +12 volt, ground, and vehicle speed signal inputs must also be performed. If the compass requires calibration after these procedures have been performed, please proceed with the campaign.





1. Gain access to the digital compass module by first removing the overhead console as shown.





A. Continue by removing the console from the roof panel and disconnecting the MM06 connector as shown.





2. Disconnect the M88 connector to increase accessibility to the back of the module.





3. Pre-bend the shielding panel to match the dimensions of the back of the digital compass module as shown.





4. Peel back the adhesive liner and firmly attach the pre-bent shielding panel to the back of the module as shown.





5. Reconnect the (2) previously removed connectors.





6. Re-install the overhead console.

7. Calibrate the digital compass using the instructions provided in TSB 04-90-013.
