Subject:
REPLACEMENT REAR WINDOW GLASS BRACKETS
This bulletin supersedes TSB 07-80-001 to replace the type of adhesive that is recommended for the repair.
DESCRIPTION:
When the rear window glass (backlight) is replaced on Tucson vehicles, the center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) brackets must be attached to the glass. This TSB provides a process for mounting the CHMSL brackets.
NOTE:
This revised TSB recommends the use of a new, 3M adhesive for this application.
PARTS REQUIRED
Pictures of the CHMSL bracket and the adhesive.
Use of 3M Adhesive, item number, DP810NS, 50 ML and locally available alcohol wipes to clean the surface is recommended.
Similar products, such as the Loctite product listed below may also be used.
NOTE:
3M Automotive Aftermarket Division products can be located at www.3m.com/product/business-units/automotive-aftermarket. html. An applicator and a mixing nozzle, such as 3M(TM) Scotch-Weld(TM) EPX(TM) Plus II, item number 62-9170-9930-1 is required.
NOTE:
Loctite Locquic 736 Primer and SpeedBonder 324 Adhesive may be substituted. This product does not require an applicator. Loctite products can be located at www.loctite.us.
NOTE:
If the CHMSL requires replacement, it will also need to be ordered.
PROCEDURE:
1. The bracket positions are marked on the inside surface of the glass.
2. With the backlight placed on a clean work surface, clean the bracket mounting locations (2) with a "Scotchbrite" type pad.
NOTE:
Use 3-M Scotchbrite pad # 7448 or similar.
3. Clean them again with a wax and grease remover, then clean them with an alcohol wipe.
4. Mix a small amount of the adhesive or use the applicator gun and mixing tube to apply a small amount of adhesive to the mounting area.
5. Mount the bracket in the correct position on the glass (over the marks). Allow the brackets to set undisturbed until the adhesive cures (see the product instructions for the adhesive used - 1 minute for URE-Set, 5 minutes for Clear-Bond, or as per the instructions if an alternate adhesive is used).
WARRANTY INFORMATION:
This procedure is included in the LTS time for replacing the backlight. Normal warranty coverage applies.
