Service Procedure - Removing The Sub Frame Bushing
1. Remove the ignition key to lock the steering wheel (A) in position.
2. Remove the universal joint shaft dust cover (B).
3. Unfasten the universal joint mounting bolt (C) and separate the universal joint assembly from the steering gear.
4. Raise the vehicle and remove both front wheels.
5. Remove the LH inner splash shield (D).
6. Remove the engine splash shield.
7. Remove the right and left subframe brackets (G).
8. Before disconnecting the front of the drive shaft (E) on 4WD models, index mark the driveshaft and drive-flange with a marking pen.
9. Disconnect and support shaft using an elastic cord as shown to avoid damage to rear coupling. Refer to detail picture above.
NOTE:

10. Remove the rear roll stopper mounting bolt (J).
NOTE:
To gain access to this bolt, it may be necessary to remove engine air filter assembly.
11. Remove the front roll stopper mounting bolt (K).
12. Support the engine with a transmission jack and remove the four (4) subframe mounting bolts (M).
* torque: 16~18 kgf-m (35~39 lb-ft, 157~176 Nm)
13. Lower the subframe and support with transmission jack.
14. Mark relative position of old bushing onto the subframe using a marking pen as shown.
15. Rubber Subframe Bushing removal tool is shown in position. Apply high pressure lube liberally to threads and remove bushing.
IMPORTANT:
Use caution during the removal process to prevent the tool from falling when the outer sleeve releases.
16. Using the Outer Sleeve removal tool, remove the Outer Sleeve. The set up is shown above.
NOTE:
After the subframe bushing's outer sleeve has been removed from the subframe, inspect the bottom of the bushing housing area for a gap between the upper and lower subframe panels. If there is more than a 1.0 mm gap between the upper and lower subframe panels at the bottom of the bushing housing area, the subframe must be replaced. If there is a gap of 1.0 mm or less between the upper and lower subframe panels at the bottom of the bushing housing area, the subframe may be reused.
Refer to the illustration shown above as an example of the area to inspect.
17. Align new subframe bushing with the mark previously made. Apply grease to the outer sleeve to facilitate installation.
18. Press in the new subframe bushing. The picture above shows the new bushing installation tool set up.
NOTE:
Do not replace the sub frame bushing more than 2 times on the same sub frame.
19. Reinstall all removed components in reverse order of removal.
Caution:
After installing the Steering Column Universal Joint Assembly, adjust the steering wheel so that it is properly aligned when driving straight ahead.
