Subject:
SUNROOF MOTOR RATTLE NOISE CAUSED BY LOOSE MOUNTING SCREWS - CORRECTION PROCEDURE
DESCRIPTION:
A rattling noise may be heard if the three (3) sunroof motor mounting screws loosen as a result of vibration.
This TSB provides instructions on how to correct the condition using commercially available spring lock washers.
Parts Required:
Three (3) spring lock washers - size M5 (not supplied).
^ The sunroof motor is attached to the mounting bracket by (3) 30 mm M5 machine screws.
^ These machine screws do not seat against lock washers.
^ If the screw is loosened through shock or vibration, the screw can rattle against the aluminum sleeve pressed into the motor housing.
PROCEDURE:
1. Gain access to the sunroof motor by removing the overhead console as shown in the 2005 Hyundai Tucson shop manual.
2. Remove one 30 mm screw at a time and assemble with an M5 spring lock washer as shown.
3. Re-install the machine screw with the spring lock washer and tighten to 20-22 lb-in torque.
^ The addition of the spring lock washer will add tension to the screw head during the last two rotations as the screw is tightened.
4. Repeat the process for the remaining two (2) machine screws.
5. Re-assemble the overhead console as shown in the 2005 Hyundai Tucson shop manual.
6. Test drive the vehicle to confirm that the noise has been eliminated.
