Subject
OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM ECU RESETTING
PROCEDURE
DESCRIPTION:
The 2005 Hyundai Tucson is equipped with an Occupant Classification System designed to detect a properly-seated right front occupant and determine if the passenger's frontal airbag should be enabled (may inflate) or not. The system continuously monitors the occupant status and can change the classification decision if there is a change in occupant status.
This bulletin provides the procedure to reset the system's electronic control unit (referred to as "PODS ECU" on the Hi-Scan Pro display screen) using the Hi-Scan Pro scan tool. The ECU (which is different from the main SRS control module) needs to be reset under the two conditions noted below:
1. To erase the diagnostic codes relating to the ECU.
2. To initialize the ECU after replacing the front passenger seat cover or seat cushion assembly.
NOTES:
^ Failure to perform the "PODS RESET" procedure before erasing the SRS code(s) can activate the SRS DTC B1489 (PODS ECU Failure).
^ The PODS ECU must be initialized after the front passenger seat cushion assembly or cushion cover is replaced.
^ Refer to the 2005 Tucson Owner's Manual section "Occupant Classification System" (Section 1 pages 35 - 38) and the 2005 Tucson Shop Manual, Restraints Section, beginning on page RT-26, for details regarding the PODS ECU and diagnosis.
