2005 TUCSON 2.7L TCM REPROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS FOR DTC P0736
DESCRIPTION:
Some 2005 MY Tucson vehicles with 2.7L engines may experience the following symptoms even though there are no system faults:
1. Check Engine" light illuminated, and
2. Diagnostic Trouble Code P0736 (Reverse Gear Incorrect Ratio) stored in the Transaxle Control Module (TCM).
NOTE:
There are no vehicle performance issues associated with this condition.
This bulletin provides a procedure to reprogram the TCM software using the Hi-Scan Pro.

^ Model: All 2005 Tucson vehicles with 2.7L engines
TCM SPECIFICATIONS
CAUTIONS DURING REPROGRAMMING:
1. Perform reprogramming with the ignition key in the ON position.
2. Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or Hi-Scan Pro during reprogramming.
3. Do not start the engine during reprogramming.
4. Do not turn the ignition key OFF during reprogramming.
5. When the reprogramming is completely done, wait for about 20 seconds with the ignition key OFF and start the engine for confirming normal operation of the vehicle.
WARNING:
If automatic reprogramming is interrupted, the manual reprogramming procedure must be used.
HI-SCAN PRO INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the system software card from the Hi-Scan Pro and insert the blue 32MB reprogramming software card with the new TCM program into the Hi-Scan Pro top slot.
2. Connect the reprogramming adapter (SPX P/N J-44410-RPRG ADPT) to the Hi-Scan Pro.
3. Connect the reprogramming adaptor to the 20-pin DLC adaptor. Connect the battery power clips to the cigarette lighter adaptor.
4. Connect the battery power clips (SPX P/N 09900-27210) to the vehicle's battery.
5. Connect the 20-pin DLC adaptor (SPX P/N 09900-02100) to the reprogramming adaptor.
NOTE:
^ Parts are available from SPX at (800) 345-2233.
^ Refer to TSB 04-009-001 for a list of part numbers.
^ The 20-pin connector (DLC ATM Reflash Adaptor) was shipped separately in December 2004 together with the RF Detector for testing the key FOB.
AUTOMATIC REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE:
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. Turn the Hi-Scan Pro ON.
3. Select option "65. JM 2.7 TCM REVERSE INCORRECT RATIO" and press ENTER.
4. Select option "01. JM 2.7 TCM REVERSE INCORRECT [AUTO]" and press ENTER.
5. Enter "1229" as the password for automatic reprogramming mode and press ENTER.
6. The Hi-Scan Pro will establish communication, check the TCM ID and reprogram the TCM.
NOTE:
^ The Hi-Scan Pro will display the new TCM ID on the Hi-Scan Pro screen. Verify this TCM ID is correct by referring to the "TCM SPECIFICATIONS".
^ If the Hi-Scan Pro does not download the program, use the MANUAL REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE following this section.
7. When the "REPROGRAMMING COMPLETED" message is displayed, turn the Hi- Scan Pro OFF.
8. Turn the ignition key OFF for about 20 seconds and start the engine to confirm proper operation of the vehicle.
MANUAL REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE:
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. Turn the Hi-Scan Pro ON.
3. Select option "65. JM 2.7 TCM REVERSE INCORRECT RATIO" and press ENTER.
4. Select option "02. JM 2.7 TCM REVERSE INCORRECT [ERROR]" and press ENTER.
5. Choose the correct vehicle type as shown below and press ENTER:
^ 95440-39505: 2WD
^ 95440-39515: 4WD
6. Enter the password which is correct for your vehicle for the manual reprogramming and press ENTER.
7. The Hi-Scan Pro will establish communication, check the TCM ID and reprogram the TCM.
NOTE:
The Hi-Scan Pro will display the new TCM ID on the Hi-Scan Pro screen. Verify this TCM ID is correct by referring to the "TCM SPECIFICATIONS".
8. When "REPROGRAMMING COMPLETED" message is displayed, turn the Hi-Scan Pro OFF.
9. Turn the ignition key OFF for about 20 seconds and start the engine to confirm the proper operation of the vehicle.
10. Check for diagnostic trouble codes using the Hi-Scan Pro with the system software card and erase any trouble codes.
