Service Procedure
1. Depress the Power Main Switch to the "OFF" position at the overhead console. Confirm that the Power Tailgate is disabled and then manually open the tailgate.
IMPORTANT:
Be sure to wear protective eyewear starting from this point and follow all precautions of the various products used in this bulletin.
NOTE:
Perform the following steps for only one side until Step 9, then complete the other side.
2. Place reference marks at the bottom of the sensor strip and the carrier.
3. Beginning from the top of the carrier assembly, carefully detach the sensor strip from the carrier assembly up to the reference marks.
NOTE:
Firmly hold the carrier assembly while slowly separating the sensor strip from it.
NOTE:
Do not pull the sensor strip away from the reference marks.
4. Prepare the carrier and sensor strip mating areas for primer application:
^ First, remove any separated tape material from the carrier track.
^ Then, apply alcohol wipe to remove any adhesive residue from the track area of the carrier assembly.
^ In addition, wipe down only the adhesive portion of the sensor strip with a clean alcohol wipe.
NOTE:
Do not completely remove the adhesive from the sensor strip. Only remove loose pieces that may have separated.
5. Press and crush the dot to activate a 3M 94 Primer Ampule. Apply to following areas:
^ Apply Primer 94 to the track area of the carrier assembly.
^ In addition, apply Primer 94 to the existing adhesive portion of the sensor strip.
6. Starting from the bottom of the carrier assembly track, attach one (1) pre-cut piece of the double-sided tape along the carrier track towards the top of the carrier.
NOTE:
Follow the outer edge of the track evenly while applying the tape towards the top of the carrier assembly. Do not pull or stretch the tape.
NOTE:
Cut and remove any overhang portion of the tape so that it will be flush to the top edge of the carrier assembly.
7. Remove the red adhesive guard from the newly applied tape. Apply Primer 94 to the newly applied double sided tape.
8. Align the reference mark on the sensor strip with the carrier assembly at the bottom of the carrier. Begin to apply the sensor strip directly on top of the newly applied tape and apply pressure to the surface while working towards the top of the carrier assembly.
NOTE:
Clean off any excess primer with the alcohol prep pad and confirm that the sensor strip is securely attached to the carrier assembly.
9. Repeat Steps 2 through 8 for the tailgate sensor strip on the other side.
10. Depress the Power Main Switch to the "ON" position to enable the Power Tailgate.
11. Verify repair by operating the Power Tailgate function several times.
