REAR HUB AND DRIVE SHAFT ISOLATION WASHER INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

DESCRIPTION:

Some vehicles may exhibit a driveshaft "snap" noise when the vehicle is driven in forward or reverse.

This bulletin provides instructions on installation of a washer between the rear hub and the driveshaft (both sides) to repair this condition.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
^ Model: GENESIS SEDAN (BH) (4.6L and 3.8L Engines)
^ 4.6L Engine Model Year: SOP 2009 to Feb 16, 2009
^ 3.8L Engine Model Year: SOP 2009 to May 12, 2009





PART INFORMATION

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Lift vehicle off the ground and remove rear wheels.





NOTE:
Lug nut Tightening Torque: 9-11 Kgf-m (70-80 lb-ft)

NOTE:
Remove wheel cap with care. Remove lug nuts with a 21mm socket (Nylon coated socket recommended)





2. Remove the caliper by unfastening the mounting bolt (E).

NOTE:
Tightening Torque: 6.5-7.5 Kgf-m (47-55 lb-ft)





3. Remove the brake disc by unfastening the screws (F).





4. Remove the driveshaft castle nut.

NOTE:
Tightening Torque: 20-26 Kgf-m (145-188 lb-ft).

NOTE:
Do not re-use cotter pin.





5. Remove the upper return spring (G), the brake shoe hold down rear spring and the adjuster (H) and move the brake shoe to the side. Be sure not to drop the shoe adjuster screw (I).

NOTE:
Be sure to remove only the brake shoe hold down spring (H) and upper return spring (G), do not remove the brake shoe hold down front spring (Lower) (H1).





6. Photo is for reference only. This shows the upper return spring (G) without the hub blocking the view.





7. To gain access to the rear hub mounting bolts (4), push the driveshaft as far inward as possible using SST 09495-3300 (puller) (K).

NOTE:
When removing and installing the rear hub bearing assembly, take care not to touch the brake shoe linings.





8. Remove the 4 rear hub bearing mounting bolts (J).

NOTE:
Tightening Torque: 8-9 Kgf-m (58-65 lb-ft).





9. Install the plastic washer (L) into the hub bearing as shown on the photo.

10. Install all parts removed in reverse order.





NOTE:
When installing the brake shoe adjuster screw - make sure the threads on the adjust screw are pointing to the rear of the vehicle. Please refer to the service manual for any parking brake shoe adjustments if needed.

11. Perform the same procedure on other side of the vehicle.
