GENESIS - 1 - KEY CUTTING PROCEDURE AND 2 - SMART KEY PROGRAMMING

GENESIS KEY CUTTING PROCEDURE:

The 2009 Genesis comes equipped with high security internally cut keys. This section of the TSB will provide ordering information for a single key from an HMA Parts Distribution Center and information on cutting the key(s).

These special high security key blanks cannot be cut by conventional key cutting machines, and must be either ordered precut from your Hyundai Motor America Parts Distribution Center, or be cut on a specific key cutting machine.

Genesis key blanks can only be code cut by the BD Laser; a machine produced by Barnes Distribution. This machine may not be available at all Hyundai Dealerships; therefore, the option to order them pre-cut from an HMA PDC has been made available.

KEY CUTTING PROCEDURE:

1. If the Hyundai dealer does NOT have a Barnes Distribution BD Laser key cutter, they MUST call the Hyundai Motor America Parts Call Center and make a request (order) for Genesis keys to be cut.

^ Note:
Genesis keys ordered in singles only.

2. The Hyundai dealer MUST provide the following information to the HMA Parts Call Center.

^ VIN

^ Key Code

^ Dealer Code

^ Dealer Address (exact shipping address)

^ Dealer Contact (exact name of who the key should be delivered to)

^ Contact Phone Number and Extension

^ Number of keys cut

3. An HMA PDC will expedite the shipping of the key(s) to the dealership address as provided in step 2.

GENESIS KEY PART NUMBER INFORMATION:

REMOTE (SMART KEY) (PIC) PROGRAMMING (RE-PROGRAMMING) PROCEDURE:

The Genesis is equipped with immobilizer anti-theft technology that will not allow the newly ordered remote(s) to start the vehicle unless they have been first programmed to the vehicle. The following steps will instruct you on how to program (re-program) existing and new remote(s).

NOTE:
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ALL OF THE CUSTOMER'S EXISTING REMOTES BE PRESENT DURING THE PROGRAMMING PROCESS.

When an owner loses a Genesis remote, the customer has one of (2) options to replace the lost remote. Both options require that the customer bring the vehicle and any remaining remotes (Smart Keys) to an authorized Hyundai dealer.

Option # 1

The customer can use the remaining remote originally supplied with the vehicle to drive to an authorized Hyundai dealer and request that a new key(s) to be cut and new remote(s) be ordered and programed. (See "Key Cutting Procedure" for key ordering and cutting). Again, it is important that the customer bring all remaining remote(s) with them to the dealership. Any remote(s) (Smart Key(s)) not programmed (or re-programmed) in the same operation will be unable to start the vehicle.

Option # 2

The customer can have the vehicle towed to an authorized Hyundai dealer and request that a new key(s) be cut and new remotes be ordered and programmed. (See "Key Cutting Procedure" for key ordering and cutting). Again, it is important that the customer bring all remaining remote(s) with them to the dealership. Any remote(s) that is not programmed (or reprogrammed) in the same operation will be unable to start the vehicle. See the "Programming Remote" section for more details.

GENESIS REMOTE PART NUMBER INFORMATION:

REMOTE (SMART KEY) PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE:

Programming new remote(s) (Smart Key) or re-programming existing remote(s) to an EXISTING PCM (ECM)

1. You must have all of the remote(s) (Smart Key(s)) and all of the customer's existing remotes at this point. Any remote(s) that is not programmed (or re-programmed) during this programming procedure WILL NO LONGER START THE VEHICLE.

2. Obtain the vehicle specific PIN code (6 digits) from your Service Manager using the Hyundai Dealer website. This 6 digit PIN code is required to program the new and existing immobilizer remotes to the vehicle using the GDS tool.

^ Note:
It is very important that this PIN code not be shared or displayed with anyone. This is a secure code and should be treated the same as a vehicle key code.

3. Insert the first remote (Smart Key) into the Smart Key Holder. Turn ON ignition by pressing the vehicle START/STOP button twice but DO NOT START THE VEHICLE (NOTE: DO NOT PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL). Connect the GDS VCI module to the vehicle DLC port and turn the GDS on.

4. Select "VIN" (Red Arrow) to auto VIN detect:

5. Select vehicle, GENESIS (BH) if auto VIN detect is not used:

6. Select "PIC" (SMART KEY CODE SAVING) then click "OK":

7. Select "System Options"

8. Select "Smart Key Code Saving"

9. Insert the 1st Smart Key remote into the Smart Key holder and press the "OK" button.

NOTE:
Ignition should be off in this step.

10. Enter the 6 digit PIN code (immobilizer code) obtained from the Hyundai Dealer website and press OK.

11. You will be prompted twice, asking if you are sure you want to continue, press OK at each prompt to continue or press Cancel to exit Smart Key Code Saving.

12. After the 1st Smart Key teaching has been completed, a screen will ask if you want to teach the 2nd Smart Key. Press OK to begin the 2nd Smart Key teaching.

NOTE:
Once the 1st remote (Smart Key) is programmed the customer's 2nd remote needs to be programmed at the same time or the vehicle will not start.

13. Insert the 2nd remote (Smart Key) into the Smart Key holder when prompted; when the 2nd remote (Smart Key) teaching complete screen appears, press OK.

14. When the programming of both remotes (Smart Keys) is completed, a screen will appear indicating "Smart Key Teaching Completed!" with the number of Smart Keys taught.

WHEN REPLACING THE PCM (ECM):

NOTE:
You do not have to program the remotes (Smart Keys) to the PCM.

NOTE:
Follow the normal VIN writing procedures outline in the Genesis Service Manual when replacing the PCM (ECM).
