A/C - Noise During Compressor Operation, A/C Inoperable

Description:

Some vehicles listed below may exhibit the following condition(s) due to an inoperable A/C pulley disc limiter.

^ Noise from the A/C compressor during operation

^ A/C compressor is disconnected internally and A/C system is inoperable





Follow the procedure outlined in this bulletin to replace the A/C Pulley Assembly and the A/C Disc & Hub Assembly to correct this condition.

Applicable Vehicles:

^ 2009 MY and later Genesis (BH) vehicles produced between 4/30/2008 through 7/24/2012

^ 2011 MY and later Equus (VI) vehicles produced between 7/13/2010 through 7/24/2012

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Prepare the vehicle for underhood repair work.

2. Remove the cooling fan and the serpentine belt.





3. Remove the 8mm center bolt from the A/C compressor and disc.





4. Remove the disc and then disassemble the external snap-ring to release the pulley.





5. Remove the pulley from the A/C compressor.

^ Clean off any debris from the snout of the compressor.





6. Position the new pulley onto the A/C compressor and reinstall the snap-ring with the facing bevel edge matching correctly as shown below.

Reinstall the serpentine belt at this time.





7. Install the new disc.

^ To assemble onto the pulley, rotate the disc clockwise while gently pushing towards the compressor.





8. Reinstall the 8mm center bolt from the A/C compressor and disc.

^ Tighten the bolt to 9.2 lb.ft (12.5 N.m).

9. Reinstall the cooling fan.

10. Verify repair.

> Start the engine with the A/C off.

^ Visually check whether the disc and pulley is rotating properly without slipping.

^ Check for any unusual noise.

> Turn the A/C on to maximum cold setting.

^ Verify that the A/C compressor operates by confirming cold airflow from the vents.

> If any issues are found, then turn off the engine. Carefully recheck the repair work.
