SERVICE INFORMATION

If a 2000 or 2001 I30 exhibits the following symptom:





A hiss, whistle, or flutter noise from the rear door glass area (left, right, or both sides) at 40 MPH or more, There may be too much clearance between the rear door glass run rubber and top corner of the window partition sash (next to the fixed quarter window) causing a wind leak. See Figure 1 for location.

Should it occur, use the information in this bulletin to confirm the incident and resolve the wind noise by installing foam tape on the upper rear corner of both of the glass run rubbers.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Diagnosis:

1. Road test the vehicle under the conditions described above to confirm the noise is present.

2. If the wind noise is heard during the road test, place two-inch wide masking tape over the upper rear corner of both of the glass run rubbers - next to the fixed rear quarter windows. See Figure 1.

3. Road test the vehicle again.

^ If the noise level is reduced, proceed to the Repair Procedure, below.

^ If the noise level is not reduced, this bulletin does not apply. Use the appropriate Service Manual, Body And Trim section, to further diagnose and repair the incident.

Repair Procedure:

NOTE: Perform the following service procedure on both rear door windows - regardless of which rear door window exhibits the wind noise.

1. Lower the rear window.





2. Pull out the upper rear corner of the glass run rubber. See Figure 2.

3. Cut a 70 mm (2.76 inch) long piece from one of the foam tape strips (listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin).

4. Peel off the tape backing and apply the foam tape inside the run rubber channel, between the top and bottom run rubber shoulders (indentations). See Figure 2.

5. Cut another 70 mm (2.76 inch) long piece of foam tape from the same tape strip used in step 3 above.





6. Peel off the tape backing and apply the foam tape around the outer edge of the rear window frame. See Figure 3.

7. Re-install the glass run rubber.

NOTE:
Be sure the run rubber is fully inserted into the window frame.

8. Repeat steps 1 through 7 above for the other rear glass run rubber.

9. Repeat the road test to verify the wind noise is eliminated.
