Tightening Procedures

Install cylinder heads.
Check that camshaft key and camshaft knock pins are located in positions shown in the figure. Install cylinder heads on block. Be careful not to damage or scratch cylinder head gaskets during installation.





Right bank





Left bank

Tighten cylinder head bolts.
- Lubricate threads and seat surfaces of the bolts with new engine oil.
- Tightening procedure
(a) Tighten bolts to 29 Nm (3.0 kg-m, 22 ft. lbs.).
(b) Tighten bolts to 93 Nm (9.5 kg-m, 69 ft. lbs.).
(c) Loosen bolts completely.
(d) Tighten bolts to 25 to 34 Nm (2.5 to 3.5 kg-m, 18 to 25 ft. lbs.).
(e) Turn bolts 90 to 95 degrees clockwise.





- Install the washer with non-chamfered side facing the cylinder head.





Install cylinder head sub-bolts.
6.3 - 8.3 Nm (0.64 - 0.85 kg-m, 55.6 - 73.8 inch lbs.)
The bolts indicated by arrow marks in the figure have different dimensions [l = 35 mm (1.38 inch)] than the other bolts [l = 23 mm (0.91 inch)]. Make sure bolt length and location correspond.
