Ignition System: Description and Operation
CIRCUIT OPERATION2.3L
With the ignition switch in ON or START, battery voltage is applied to the ignition coil. As the distributor shaft turns, the igniter acts as a switch to control current flow through the primary winding of the ignition coil. When current flow though the primary winding is stropped, a high-voltage current is induced in the secondary winding of the ignition coil. The high- voltage current then flows through the distributor cap and rotor to the proper spark plug. The radio noise suppressor helps reduce electrical interference.
