High Pressure Fuel Pump Drive Gear and Driven Gear
REMOVALCAUTION: Before removing the fuel injectors, be absolutely sure to eliminate the fuel pressure in the fuel rail. To do this, remove the pump relay and start the engine. Wait for the engine to stall.
When repair to the fuel system has been completed, start engine and check the fuel system for loose connection or leakage.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove fuel filler cap (1).
3. Remove cylinder head cover RH.
- Refer to removal procedure for Cylinder Head Cover RH.
4. Remove high pressure fuel pump drive gear.
5. Remove cylinder head assembly.
- Refer to removal procedure for Cylinder Head.
6. Remove two bolts from high Pressure Fuel Pump and remove high pressure fuel pump assembly.
7. Remove fuel pump driven gear and driven gear bearing using J-23907.
1. Remove fuel pump driven gear using J-23907 and sliding hammer.
2. Remove driven gear bearing using J-23907 and sliding hammer.
INSTALLATION
1. Use the special tool (J-39378) and a hammer to force the driven gear bearing on to the fuel pump driven gear.
2. Install fuel pump driven gear and bearing.
1. Set the fuel pump driven gear and driven gear bearing assembly to the special tool (J-46921).
2. Install the fuel pump driven gear, driven gear bearing, and special tool (J-46921) assembly to the cylinder head. Tighten the outside bolts (1) shown in the illustration.
3. Slowly tighten the center bolt (3) to press the fuel pump driven gear and driven gear bearing assembly into place. Be absolutely sure that the driven gear and the drive gear are correctly meshed.
4. Loosen the 2 outside bolts to remove the special tool.
3. Install high pressure fuel pump assembly.
Torque: 25 Nm (18.4 lb ft)
NOTE: Do not reuse packing.
4. Install cylinder head assembly.
- Refer to Installation procedure for Cylinder Head.
