SERVICE INFORMAION
On the affected vehicles, EGR valves may develop a crack at the weld fastening the valve plate to its shaft. A broken weld may cause the valve plate to detach and enter the engine, resulting in severe engine damage and excessive emissions.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
All owners of affected vehicles will be notified of this possible defect by letter from American Isuzu Motors Inc.. Each dealership will be supplied with a detailed listing of affected vehicles shipped to the dealership which contains VIN and detailed owner information. If none of the affected vehicles were shipped to your dealership, you will not receive a listing of vehicle and owner information.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Any affected vehicle must have the ECM valve replaced, regardless of time or mileage, according to the following procedure:
1. Check vehicle for a Campaign Identification Label located on the underside of the engine compartment hood above and to the right of the vacuum routing diagrarm (see fig. 1). If label is present, the vehicle has been corrected.
2. If the vehicle does not have a Campaign Identification Label, remove the air cleaner assembly and disconnect EGR vacuum line.
3. Loosen the large (30mm) flare nut on EGR exhaust pipe and the 2 EGR fastening bolts. Remove EGR Valve.
4. Inspect the EGR valve. If the EGR valve plate is missing, the intake manifold and/or cylinder head must be removed to retrieve the valve plate. The missing valve plate must be taped to the original EGR valve for parts scrapping.
5. After removing the remains of the old EGR gasket, install a new EGR gasket and a new EGR valve. Fasteners should be installed finger tight until all fasteners are correctly threaded.
Torque fasteners to:
30 mm nut: 36 ft. lbs. 2 hex bolts: 14 ft. lbs.
6. Reinstall vacuum line and air cleaner.
7. Run engine until temperature gauge indicates normal operating temperature. Visually check EGR diaphragm for movement above 1600 RPM.
CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL
FIG. 1, CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL:
After installing a new EGR valve, a Campaign Identification Label must be affixed to the underside of the engine compartment hood above and to the right of the engine vacuum hose routing diagram (see fig. 1).
