Early Fuel Evaporation System

Early Fuel Evaporation System:

EARLY FUEL EVAPORATION SYSTEM TESTING

1. Start this test with a cold engine (coolant temperature below 158~±9~F, 70~±5~C).
2. Disconnect EFE heater electrical plug. Connect a voltmeter to the connector end coming from the vehicle wiring harness; "+" lead to harness battery voltage (cavity "1") and "-" lead to a good ground.
3. Turn ignition "ON" and voltmeter should read battery voltage.
4. Start and warm up engine while observing voltmeter. When coolant temperature reaches the specified level (above 158~±9~F, 70~±5~C), the ECM should cut off current to the EFE heater and the voltmeter will read zero.
5. If the EFE heater assembly is discovered to be cracked or otherwise damaged, the entire unit must be replaced.
6. If the system does not perform properly, refer to COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS.
