Air Injection Control Valve: Description and Operation
EAC Valve:
An Electric Air Control (EAC) Valve solenoid, controlled by the ECM, directs air management system flow into the exhaust ports or the air cleaner. During cold start, the ECM energizes the EAC solenoid and air is directed to the exhaust ports. When coolant temperature increases or the system enters "Closed Loop," the ECM de-energizes the EAC solenoid and air is directed to the air cleaner. At higher engine speeds, air is directed to the air cleaner through the pressure relief valve even though the solenoid may be energized. If the engine is operating rich or the "Check Engine" lamp lights, the solenoid is de-energized.
