Ignition Timing: Adjustments
1. Set parking brake and start engine.2. Place gear selector lever in NEUTRAL.
3. Confirm that "CHECK ENGINE" light is not on.
ALDL/DLC Connector:
4. Connect terminals on both ends of white ALDL connector with a jumper wire.
5. Connect an inductive timing light lead to No. 1 spark plug wire.
Timing Mark:
6. With timing light, check that center of fluctuation of white notched line on crank pulley against scale on timing cover, falls within standard value of:
9 - 11 BTDC
If confirmation is impossible due to large fluctuation, increase engine speed to 1500 to 2000 rpm. This should reduce fluctuation and allow confirmation.
Cam Angle Sensor:
7. If timing is out of standard, loosen mounting bolt on cam angle sensor and turn sensor to adjust timing.
8. Tighten mounting bolt to:
17 ft lb (24 Nm)
NOTE: When tighting bolt, be sure cam angle sensor body does not turn with mounting bolt.
9. Remove jumper wire from ALDL connector.
10. Verify that "CHECK ENGINE" light does not come on.
NOTE: Idle speed is controlled by ECM and is not adjustable.
