SERVICE INFORMATION
1990-91 Pickups use two different key code systems, each requiring different code cutting equipment:
- Pickups manufactured in Japan (VINs starting with JAA) use N-series codes.
- Pickups manufactured in the U.S.A. (VINs starting with 4S1) use D-series codes.
All Rodeos use the D-series key code system, same as Pickups manufactured in the U.S.A.
Curtis Key Service Master Kit No. 15B-47 cutter (with green casting) is used for all Rodeos and 1990-91 Pickups. Update Kits, which contain all mateiials except a key cutter, are required as follows:
- Update Kit No. 20505 for Pickups manufactured in the U.S.A., and for all Rodeos.
- Update Kit No. 20436 for Pickups manufactured in Japan.
It is important that the appropriate code cutting equipment and key blanks are used. A miscut key may stick in the ignition switch in the Start position, resulting in damage to the starter system. If using a pre-cut key blank, use a key blank with the deepest cut in first position at the shoulder of the key.
