Compressor Clutch: Service and Repair





MAGNETIC CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

REMOVAL

1. Bolt





- Using holder (J-7624) to prevent the magnetic clutch armature from rotating, then remove the bolt.

2. Magnetic clutch armature





- Using clutch plate remover (J-37215) to remove the magnetic clutch armature.

3. Shim(s)
- Always count the number of shim(s), to insure the proper number of shim(s) during installation.

4. Snap ring

5. Cover





- Using snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring.

6. Magnetic clutch pulley





- Using pulley puller pilot (J-33943), pulley puller (J-8433) and pulley puller leg (J-24092) to remove the magnetic clutch pulley.

7. Lead wire





- Remove the lead wire from lead wire fixing bush.

8. Field coil





- Loosen three screws and remove the field coil with lead wire.

- Install the field coil to the compressor.





- Lead wire must be facing up.
- Tighten the field coil fixing screws to the specified torque.

Torque N.m (lb.ft.) 5.0 (3.6)





6. Magnetic clutch pulley
- Using pulley installer (J-33940) and drive handle (J8092) to install the magnetic clutch pulley.

4. Snap ring
- Install the snap ring with the inside indented portion facing out.

2. Magnetic clutch armature
- Install the magnetic clutch armature to the compressor drive shaft together with the original shim(s).





- Press the magnetic clutch armature by hand.

1. Bolt





- Using holder (J-7624) to prevent the magnetic clutch armature from rotating.
- Tighten the bolt to the specified torque.

Torque N.m (lb.ft.) 15(11)

- After tightening the bolt, check to be sure pulley rotates smoothly.





- Check to be sure that the clutch clearance is between 0.3 - 0.6 mm (0.01-0.02 in.).
- If necessary, install adjusting shim(s).





- Adjusting shims are available in the following thickness.
