Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION OF EGR SYSTEM (ON-VEHICLE)
1) Connect a tachometer to the engine.
2) Disconnect the vacuum hose from Exhaust Gas Re- circulation (EGR) valve (mark (A)).
3) Connect a vacuum gauge to the vacuum hose (mark (A)).
4) Lift rear wheels and support with jack stands.
5) Start the engine when it is cold. (Below 59°F/15°C)
6) Check to see that the vacuum gauge indicates 0 kg/ cm2 at all engine speeds.
7) Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes.
8) Check to see that the vacuum gauge indicates 0 kg/ cm2 at idle.
9) Lift rear wheels and support with jack stands.
10) Check to see that the vacuum gauge indicates to rise at 3500 rpm.
11) Disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum gauge.
12) Connect the vacuum hose to EGR valve.
13) Make sure that the diaphragm of the EGR valve operates properly when racing the engine up to 2000 rpm.
