With Automatic Transmission

1. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then drain transfer case.
4. Remove front and rear propeller shafts.
5. Remove exhaust pipes and catalytic converter.

6. Remove front console, then disconnect shift lock cable and shift control rod, Figs. 1 and 2.
7. Remove transfer case shift lever, then disconnect speed and 4WD sensor connectors from transmission.
8. Support transfer case with a suitable jack.
9. Remove four case attaching bolts, then the transfer case.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:





11. Apply molybdenum disulfide grease to input shaft spline,Fig. 3.
12. Torque transfer case attaching bolts to 34 ft. lbs.
13. Torque propeller shaft bolt to 46 ft. lbs.
14. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
