A new Federal regulation requires all automotive manufacturers of vehicles equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) (Air Bags) to provide new warning labels stressing the danger of air bags to occupants sitting too close to them and especially to warn that infants and children 12 and under should never sit in the front passenger seat.

To comply with this new Federal regulation, all affected Isuzu light duty models produced after February 25, 1997 will be shipped from the factory with new air bag warning labels on the driver and passenger sun visors plus a special removable air bag warning label affixed to the passenger side dash. In addition to these new air bag warning labels, Isuzu has decided to include, for vehicle owner convenience, a special color printed pamphlet [Air Bag Safety: Buckle Everyone! Children? In Back! (ABC Card)] in the glove box packet.

Isuzu dealers must install immediately a set of adhesive-backed air bag warning labels to the sun visors and passenger side dash of all affected vehicles in their dealer inventory (including demonstrator models). The sun visor air bag warning labels will be affixed directly over the existing air bag warning labels printed onto the sun visors. Isuzu dealers must also insert an ABC Card into each vehicle glove box packet. Isuzu dealers will receive a quantity of adhesive-backed air bag warning labels and a supply of ABC Cards, based on the number of affected vehicles in their dealer stock.

American Isuzu Motors Inc. will notify by letter, all owners of affected vehicles already retailed (see enclosed copy). Vehicle owners will receive a Dual Air Bag Safety Information Installation Kit containing a set of adhesive-backed air bag warning labels for their vehicle's sun visors, an ABC Card, and an illustrated instruction sheet. This kit, however, will not include the special removable air bag warning label for the passenger side dash. Vehicle owners are instructed to affix the new air bag warning labels directly over the air bag warning labels printed on their vehicle's sun visors and to insert the ABC Card into the vehicle glove box packet. if preferred, a vehicle owner may chose to contact an authorized Isuzu dealer to arrange a service appointment to have this done.
