1996 HOMBRE (TH) INCORRECT HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN 96V-059

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

Number 96V-059 has been assigned to this campaign. This number will appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with the campaign.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

1996 Hombre (TH) models. All VIN's from T8700001-T8702419.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Condition:
General Motors, in concurrence with American Isuzu Motors Inc., has determined that certain 1996 Hombre vehicles built and shipped from General Motors' Shreveport Assembly plant, may have an incorrect headlamp assembly. With an incorrect headlamp assembly, the vehicle may not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment".

Possible Cause:
A Brazilian headlamp assembly may have been inadvertently installed instead of the U.S. headlamp assembly. The Brazilian headlamp assembly has different markings and photometrics, and no aiming pads, compared to the U.S. headlamp assembly.

Correction:
To correct this condition, dealers will inspect both the left and right headlamp assemblies for presence of the headlamp aiming pads. If the headlamp assembly does not have these aiming pads, it must be replaced with the correct headlamp assembly (See Parts Information Section of this Campaign Bulletin).

DEALER RESPONSIBILITY

Isuzu dealers are required to service all eligible vehicles at no charge to the owner, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership.

Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is in a dealer's vehicle inventory, or arrives at a dealership for service, the dealer must take the necessary steps to ensure that this campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.

Each Isuzu dealer will be supplied a copy of the AIMI Campaign Report (AWS-123-1A) listing affected vehicles assigned to that dealership. The report contains VIN and detailed owner information obtained from state motor vehicle registration records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly dealers are urged to limit the use of this information to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign. If none of the affected vehicles are assigned to a dealership, no campaign report will be sent.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

American Isuzu Motors Inc. will send a notification letter to owners of affected vehicles already retailed (see enclosed copy). Dealers should follow up with vehicle owners by sending a Campaign Reminder Notice (AIMI SVCF-1052) to all vehicle owners listed in the AIMI Campaign Report AWS-123-1A. These postcards can be obtained from any regional office.

APPLYING THE CAMPAIGN LABEL

1. Affix a campaign label (Part No. 2-90028-70-0) adjacent to the manufacturer's identification label located inside of the driver's door.
