Differential Case: Service and Repair

1. Lubricate all parts with axle lubricant.
2. Install thrust washer to side gears.
3. Install side gears.
4. Install pinion gears without thrust washers as follows:
a. Place one pinion gear on side gear and rotate until pinion is exactly opposite from differential opening.
b. Place second pinion gear on side gear so pinion gear holes lined up.
c. Rotate gears into place and verify gears line up with pinion shaft holes.
5. Install pinion thrust washers.
6. Install pinion shaft and new lock bolt.
7. Install two threaded studs into ring gear on opposite sides and place ring gear on case aligning studs with holes in case.
8. Gradually tighten ring gear bolts in two to three stags. Final torque should be 90 ft. lbs.
9. Place tool No. J 8107-2, or equivalent, into differential case on opposite side of installed bearing.
10. Drive bearing onto case using tool Nos. J 25299 and J 8092, or equivalents.
11. Install differential case to axle housing.
