Removal/Installation

Transmission Left Side Brace:




Transmission Right Side Brace:




Concentric Slave Cylinder Quick Connect:




Clutch Housing Cover:




Transmission To Engine:




Remove or Disconnect (Figures 4 through 8)
- Shift the transmission into 3rd or 4th mechanical gear position.

1. Shift lever.
2. Shift housing.
- Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Parking brake cable for clearance.
4. Propeller shaft.
5. Wiring harness connectors from the speed sensor and back up switch.
6. Wiring harness retainers from right side of transmission.
7. Muffler from catalytic converter.
8. Exhaust pipes from the exhaust manifold.
9. Catalytic converter hanger and exhaust section.
10. Two bolts and a nut securing the transmission left side brace to the engine and transmission (Figure 4).
11. Two bolts securing the transmission right side brace to the engine and transmission. (Figure 5).
12. Hydraulic clutch line quick connect from concentric slave cylinder (Figure 6).
- Use one of the two methods listed below to disconnect the clutch line from the concentric slave cylinder quick connect.

- Use two small flat head screw drivers at 180 degrees from each other to depress the white plastic sleeve on the quick connect to separate the clutch line from the concentric slave cylinder quick connect.
- Use special tool J 36221 to depress the white plastic sleeve on the quick connect to separate the clutch line end from the concentric slave cylinder quick connect.

13. Four bolts securing the clutch housing cover to the transmission (Figure 7).
14. Clutch plate and clutch cover from flywheel.
- Support the transmission with a jack.

15. Fuel lines and fuel line retainers from the rear crossmember.
16. Rear crossmember from the frame rail.
17. Wiring harness from the front crossmember.
- Move the wiring harness away from the transmission oil pan.
- Lower the transmission enough to gain access to the top of the transmission.

18. Fuel line retainers from the top of the transmission.
19. Bolt, washer, and nut securing the wiring harness ground wires to the engine block.
20. Five bolts securing the transmission to the engine.
- Pull the transmission straight back on the clutch hub splines.

21. Lower the transmission using the transmission jack.

Install or Connect (Figures 4 through 8)
1. Raise the transmission using the transmission jack.
2. Fuel line retainers to the top of the transmission.
3. Five bolts securing the transmission to the engine (Figure 8).
- Push the transmission straight back onto the clutch hub splines.

Tighten
- Transmission to the engine bolts to 90 N-m (66 lb-ft.).

4. Bolt, washer, and nut securing the wiring harness ground wires to the engine block.

Tighten
- Nut securing the wiring harness ground wires to 90 N-m (66 lb-ft.).

5. Wiring harness to the front crossmember.
6. Rear crossmember to the frame rail.
7. Fuel lines and fuel line retainers to the rear cross member.
8. Clutch plate and clutch cover to the flywheel.
9. Four bolts securing the clutch housing cover to the transmission (Figure 7).

Tighten
- Clutch housing cover bolts to 7 N-m (62 lb-in.).

10. Hydraulic clutch line to the concentric slave cylinder quick connect (Figure 6).
11. Two bolts securing the transmission right side brace to the engine and transmission (Figure 5).

Tighten
- Right side brace bolts to 50 N-m (37 lb-ft.).

12. Two bolts and a nut securing the transmission left side brace to the engine and transmission (Figure 4).

Tighten
- Left side brace bolts to 50 N-m (37 lb-ft.).

13. Catalytic converter hanger and exhaust section.
14. Exhaust pipes to the exhaust manifold.
15. Muffler to the catalytic converter.
16. Wiring harness retainers to the right side of transmission.
17. Wiring harness connectors to the speed sensor and back up switch.
18. Propeller shaft.
19. Parking brake cable.
20. Shift housing.
21. Shift lever.
