1996-97 TROOPER (UX) WINDSHIELD MOLDING TAPPING NOISE

AFFECTED VEHICLES

1996-97 Trooper (UX) models equipped with hood-mounted wind deflector accessory.

Some affected vehicles may experience a tapping noise coming from the driver or passenger side dash area when traveling at speeds over 60 miles per hour. This tapping noise may be caused by turbulence generated from the hood-mounted air deflector accessory.

To eliminate this tapping noise, seal the windshield molding to the A-pillar with ThreeBond 1207B Silicone Gasket (Part. No. 2-90067-801-0), using the procedure described in this Service Bulletin.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

CLEANING

A-Pillar (Right/Left)

^ Clean A-pillar surface thoroughly using suitable non-abrasive cleaning product.

IMPORTANT!
Be sure to clean the area under the lip of the windshield molding.

SILICONE GASKET APPLICATION

IMPORTANT!
1997 Trooper models, and some late 1996 Trooper models produced after 4/30/96, have two pieces of sponge felt located between the second and third windshield molding retaining clips. Do not remove these felt pieces when performing steps below.

Windshield Molding (Right/Left)
^ Lift lip of windshield molding away from A-pillar. Insert nozzle of ThreeBond 1207B Silicone Casket (Part No. 2-90067-801-0) under lifted lip and apply bead of silicone gasket along full length of A-pillar molding (Figure 1).

^ Remove nozzle from under windshield molding lip and press windshield molding against A-pillar using fingers to smooth out and ensure flush fit. Allow silicone gasket to set for five (5) minutes.

CLEANING

A-Pillar (Right/Left)
^ Clean all excess silicone gasket from affected area using suitable adhesive cleaner.
