Alternator: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions. Vehicle Damage Warnings
2. Working through the wheel well, remove the generator rear brace from the engine. Remove the generator brace to the engine block bolt. . Remove the generator brace to the intake manifold nuts.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.





4. Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
5. Remove the BAT feed terminal nut.
6. Remove the BAT feed terminal wire.





7. Remove the generator mounting bolts.
8. Remove the generator from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the generator to the vehicle.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Vehicle Damage Warnings





2. Install the generator attaching bolts.

Tighten
2.1. Tighten the left generator bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
2.2. Tighten the right generator bolt to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Connect the BAT feed wire to the generator.

Tighten
Tighten the BAT feed terminal nut to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)

4. Connect the electrical connector to the generator.





5. Install the generator rear brace to the engine, working through the wheel well.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

6. Install the generator rear brace attaching bolt and nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the generator brace nuts and bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)

7. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
