Wiper Motor: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

Tools Required
J39232 Wiper Transmission Separator




1. Remove the wiper arms. Refer to Wiper Arm Replacement.
2. Remove the air inlet grille panel. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement in Body Front End.




3. Remove the transmission from the wiper motor drive link using the J 39232.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor.
5. Remove the three screws and wiper motor from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

J39529 Wiper Transmission Installer

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Note in Cautions and Notes.




1. Install the wiper motor onto the vehicle with three screws.

Tighten
Tighten the wiper motor mounting screws to 6.5 N.m (57 lb in).




2. Connect the electrical connector.

IMPORTANT:
- Lubricate the socket with white lithium grease.
- The wiper transmission assembly must be assembled to the crank arm past the second detent so the seal is compressed to a maximum height of 25.5 mm (1 in).

3. Install the transmission drive link socket onto the crank arm ball of the wiper motor using the J39529.
4. Install the air inlet grille panel. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
5. Install the wiper arms. Refer to Wiper Arm Replacement.
6. Run the wipers and check for proper operation.
