P1640 AND P1650 OUTPUT DRIVE CODES

AFFECTED VEHICLES

All 1998 through 2000 Model Year 3.2L and 3.5L Amigos, Rodeos, and Troopers with PCM codes P1640 and/or P1650.

SERVICE INFORMATION

P1640 and P1650 codes refer to output driver circuit conditions related to the PCM. The diagnostic charts given in the Driveability Manuals for the 1998-2000 3.2L and 3.5L engines are incorrect. The diagnostic charts indicate to use the Tech2 to perform an output driver test; however, the software of the Tech2 does not perform the needed output driver test. In order to properly diagnose these codes, it is recommended to use the PowerLink Diagnostics.

The PowerLink Diagnostics will allow the activation of each of the controlled circuits and request specific voltage readings. These series of tests are accurate and lead to a rapid diagnosis.
