Steering Rack - Sector Shaft Alignment

Some new Steering Rack Assemblies may have the Sector Shaft Indexed flat for shipping purposes only (incorrectly aligned by 180 degrees). The new Steering Rack Assembly has the sector shaft flat spot 180° out, which would inhibit the Steering Rack Assembly to be installed. When the new Steering Rack Assembly is installed (without the installation/alignment), the Sector Shaft does not line up on the coupler. To correct this condition, do not return the new Steering Rack Assembly and do not attempt to disassemble the Steering Rack Assembly. Simply remove the Universal Joint from the Transfer Box and rotate it 180° for proper installation/alignment. Refer to Figure 1.
