Higher Than Normal Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge
ISSUE DATE: OCTOBER 2004
Affected Vehicles
2003-2004 Isuzu Ascender (US/UT) models.
Service Information
Condition:
Some customers may comment on higher than normal engine coolant temperature gauge readings when operating the vehicle in high outside ambient temperatures and in stop and go or slow moving traffic.
Possible Cause:
Reduced air flow across the radiator and preheated air from stopped or slow moving driving conditions from traffic congestion. This may result in normally higher engine coolant operating temperatures as indicated by the temperature gauge.
Correction:
A revised calibration has been released to address this issue.
Service Procedure
Reprogram the PCM using normal SPS procedures using ITCS software version 31 or later. This new calibration will cause the PCM to command small amounts of additional fan engagement to control engine coolant temperatures and gauge readings closer to the customer's perception of normal.
